Okay. So you’re 24 years old. Got a new job. You’re telling your friends and family, “how, some people just say they love their job, but I really, really, really mean it.” Fast-forward 18 months later: you’re finishing up on a project, then another one appears. A client is hounding you to fix this, or that, while the customer support is ringing off the hook, with a question regarding a problem that isn’t even totally related to whatever you’re doing.
Know what? Walk. Walk out. When you clear your head, you’ll find that, situations tend to clear themselves as well. Any tech guy will know: a little downtime’s required to keep a full uptime. Here are a few reasons to get you off your desk:
- Food – Yes. We eat everyday. But simple comforts like eating your favorite ice cream can do wonders for the soul. Remember when you were a kid, and you’d get a scratch, or a bruise, and all it took was an ice cream cone to make it all better? It’s kind of like that.
- Travel – Take a week off. There’s a meeting you have to be in? When you don’t show up, there’ll most likely be someone else to do the job for you. Being off-the-grid is a great blessing for the busy-body.
- Daytime TV – Or movies, or DVDs, or cable. If you haven’t missed a day of school or work in your life, you’re totally missing out on all the mind-junkfood tv serves up. Plus, your DVD collection won’t be watching itself, you know.
- Books – If you can’t afford a vacation, these’ll take you places. A little break from work helps you catch up with your reading.
- Sleep – This is just the best. Faking sick? Hah! Take a few days off, just to sleep. To rest. I hated my eyes when I was working long hours and sleeping for 3-4 hours a day. I had a perpetually-tired look that cucumbers-on-the-eyes just can’t fix. A lot of ZZZs = more time for your body to repair itself before it self-destructs.
